Social

Democracy has citizens’ councils, citizens’ initiatives. People vote for democratic parties.

People pay cash and digitally.

The Western lifestyle respects planetary boundaries.

The work serves more self-made, repaired, forces less to earn money

People have time for work and care work in the non-formal system such as family, relationship.

People cultivate time and relationship wealth.

Self-help is promoted through education, craft is upgraded compared to study

Medicine focuses on quality of life style.

The artists receive a guarantee for their social participation.

The Internet is data-saving and powered by green electricity.

Ecology

The forest is rebuilt, rich in species, suitable for the climate. Forestry serves the CO₂ sink. The extracted wood stores CO₂ in buildings.

Agriculture is grandchild-friendly, builds soil life and nutrient humus, CO₂ is stored in the soil.

The bogs are wetted again.

One eats organic, whole foods, high fiber, vegetarian or vegan. Meat eaters eat only Sunday roast. Leftover food is “saved”.

The built-up landscape is unsealed.

The arable land is withdrawn from speculation as a livelihood.

Species extinction has stopped. The species are preserved.

The garden is rich in species, has meadow instead of lawn, serves the self-sufficiency.

The country is upgraded compared to the city.

The streams are renaturalized

Rainwater is infiltrated instead of drained, stored and reused.

Wastewater is separated from rainwater, its heat is recovered.

The toilet, where possible, is a composting toilet. Recyclable materials in sewage sludge are recycled.

The gray water and its heat from the shower and kitchen are recycled and reused.

Economy

Degrowth or post-growth has been expanded in Germany to include the perspective of climate-friendly global growth.

The Supply Chain Act shows transparency from source to consumer.

The goods are durable, repairable, modernizable, shared with community.

The waste is avoided, recyclables are kept in the circle, packaging is avoided.

Fewer fashion and status items are consumed. Clothing is more durable, recyclable or reusable.

The energy turnaround is complete. The sources are regenerative instead of fossil and nuclear, more decentralized. Consumption is more economical. The race against time “to become climate neutral”, is won.

The traffic happens on foot, by bike, by public transport. Motor vehicles are shared.

Traveling pays attention to resource consumption. Flying is done with green fuel.  Cruising has ended or is regenerative, avoiding waste in the process.

Urban mining supplies raw materials instead of importing them.

CO₂ is saved in construction, and wood as a building material is a CO₂ reservoir. The building stock is being modernized in a climate-friendly way instead of being demolished.

The buildings are zero or low energy houses, have solar panels on roofs, facades. Solar panels are located along highways, in fields above fields.

Housing is happening on less land.

The city is climate-friendly, green, roofs and facades are greened.

Urban trees are diversified, site and climate appropriate, have canopy closure

The lighting is done with LED, where you are or it is socially necessary.

The light pollution of the sky has ended, all stars are visible again.

In the shop windows of WerkStadt Berlin, LED spotlights shine according to a mysterious choreography for a quarter of an hour each at changing times of day. “The light is on!” is an exclamation, with a reminder to turn off the electric light in an unused room. Christmas is the celebration of light, which is increasingly clouded by the effort to save fossil energy and expensive electricity. The installation celebrates and saves with light at the same time.

Making wishes come true at Christmas means happiness for many people. This happiness is now clouded by the approaching climate crisis and the Russian invasion of Ukraine. You start saving money, energy and consumption.

A withered fir tree with brown needles placed in the shop window is hung with 12 model cars. In our forests, trees are dying from drought caused by the climate crisis. At the same time, many people are attached to their accustomed lifestyles, and cars are a natural part of that. The cars on the tree represent the annual wasteful abundance of gifts that consume fossil resources, the CO2 product of which destroys our livelihoods. The traditional Christmas carol “O Tannenbaum” is now called “Oh Tannenbaum”.

Experience the German Train chaos and think of former Head Mr. Mehdorn, who also thought the market would fix it.

See the future of the world gloomy. It is hitting our children and now the countries that are already threatened.

So slowly the future arrives.
In our case, it’s the pools that we’re no longer allowed to fill, the foresters whose forest is dying away,
the farmers who do not get enough water, the water workers who have problems with nitrates.

The time as a carefree post-war child is over.

The phenomenon permeates all areas of our lives. Without consistent and decisive countermeasures, all changes run towards a critical point – the “tipping point”. From this point on, the factors can no longer be influenced, the system takes on a life of its own. So the new exhibition at the VBK is also called “Climate Tipping Points.” He presents works created as part of a competition. The idea came from VBK member Andrea Streit. In the end, 10 artists were selected who focus on completely different aspects of the theme in the works submitted. In their works, the artists deal with the causes and effects of climate change. The forms of expression range from painting, collage, video, object and installation to conceptual art. The result is a very multi-layered exhibition on a virulent topic – exciting, discussion-stimulating and entertaining at the same time. An extinguished wood fire, oil barrel and a solar panel are arranged rising on a staircase. The work presents the phases of man’s energy extraction from nature. Gone are the pre-industrial days with the open wood fire on the left. We are in the middle of the fossil phase and need to enter renewable energy production on the right because of the acute climate crisis. Through our use of fossil fuels, we have caused a climate crisis that threatens humanity. The transformation consists of quickly replacing fossil energy production with renewable energy.

Artistic work on the state of our society and its relationship to nature with 50 works by Tom Albrecht from 1965 – 2021.
Actions, photographs, text, installations, moving objects, video, Super 8 .
The teeth shine. The NPP is dancing. The shell shows its treasure. The canister becomes human. The cow’s udder is plump. Globes fly, and so does the touch-me-not. Homage is paid to the logos. Corona yells. The fossil club looms.

“Something ironic and slightly absurd resonates there – a special form of wit or poetic humour is inherent in his work, which makes things – even if they weigh heavily – light and thus easier to grasp. Not the moral reproach, but rather the unexpected image, the oblique idea lie in Tom Albrecht’s artistic calculation.” Dr. Peter Funken, 2021.

Tom Albrecht founded Group Global 3000 in 2012 as a project space with a gallery and has since curated 53 exhibitions with the team.

We continued the “Making Bathwater” action from 2011 with installation, sound and performance. A two-hour lifeact. The scaled maiden from the sea acts on a raft with a comb and sings the Lorel song, the penguin man fishes for giant sausages, garlanded with tinsel.

Background

When it rains heavily, the sewer system overflows and a mixture of rain and sewage with fecal matter from streets, roofs and households flows into the sewer. Polluted canal water, oxygen deficiency, fish mortality, bathing prohibition are the result. Berlin has 160 “emergency outlets”. A misguided development of our urban development and the way we treat nature.
The few overflow reservoirs and the canal management of the water companies are not sufficient.

Our demands

The canals should get bathing quality again!
More roofs and the channel in shallow water zones need to be greened,
City areas to be unsealed,
Rain  seeps,
Ships create fewer waves,
Separate waste and storm sewers,
less wastewater has to be treated in an energy-intensive way.
